NEW YEAR 2011 3 HOURS AWAY

I hope that 2011 is better than 2010.  What a year of sadness, frustration, misery, anger, shear sorrow.  For others, they would consider this a blip; nothing at all--but for this family, we were devastated.  No need to talk about it.  Good Karma is on the way.  Perhaps I should focus on good Karma only.

January 1st 2011 is soon to be.  No fireworks, no fancy dress, no fancy restaurant.  At home with Tony and still working.  My kids.....they are PARTYING!!  18 year old boy and 14 year old girl.  Dressed up and places to go.  Not us.   But that will change in 2011. My New Years' Resolution.

Here's a lovely style from my own personal lookbook.  I'll try to link them up to my Etsy shop.

I love this song from the 60s. Some of the best music ever -- Top of the Charts -- never made it as a Group. Check out the girl drummer!

Will post some other fab videos soon. 60s, 70s. My generation.

BLACK LACE DRESSES

I love the Fall Winter Dolce & Gabbana Runway.  Black Lace dresses past the knee with either flats or pointy toe heels.  Long black gloves.  Basically, D&G can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.  They are always SPOT ON.  Could be their genes are strongly connected to mine.  Sicilian.  Regardless, their style is always changing but always a strong hit.

Retro 50's has pulled me in.  Was I in a previous life a 50s fashionista?  Perhaps.  The olive green military fatigue below the knee coat is fantastic with a longer black skirt.  Simple but stunningly fashionable.

I don't have any pics yet but will post some later.

Here's a shot of one of my favorite mantras:

WAYFARERVINTAGE now on Etsy.com

My New Etsy Store - Will be filled up by December 1st, 2010

Ebay was gouging me with fees.  No matter how I tried to balance my auctions vs. buy it now, I still ended up with a $100/month fee.  Minimum.  Some months it was $150.  Yes, I know, many great vintage sellers pay anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 per month but my exposure is not there yet.  Mama Stone Vintage has been on eBay from it's beginning (almost).  She has incredible vintage and her stylin' is AMAZING.  No one can touch here.  Well, Thriftwares is close.  IndiecultVintage, is amazing as well but she does it with high-end items.  MamaStone does it with peasant 70s dresses and 80s bodycon.  Not many furs, not much designer duds.  Just good thriftwares and great stylin.

Wayfarervintage is my store.  I have a room filled to the rafters with vintage but cannot afford a model, nor a photographer.  I will bite the bullet soon and front the money necessary and the good pics will sell my wares.  I have never given up but I know my experience on Etsy.com will be better.

Thank you to SallyJaneVintage on Etsy.com for her very thoughtful advice on how and when to transition to Etsy.com.  She (Jennifer) is a LOVELY person and I would like to add a link to her store soon.  I would like to contact her first.

Love Fall/Winter 2010 Fashion

I have a pretty stable life as a mother of two.  Yes, I am a soccer Mom on the weekends.  But it is fun.  Later this week the moms are having a cooking party.  We are learning to cook Vietnamese food.  So how bad is being a Soccer Mom??  Not bad at all.

Fashion is from a lifetime ago.  But although I don't dolly up as much as I did when in my twenties, I still love to style.  I guess it has always been one of my favorite things and still is.

This Fall is one of my favorite fashion seasons.  Camel, camel, camel.  Sophisticated 70's.  I am a child of the 70s (80s just passed me by because I was wearing secretary dresses and New Balance sneakers to walk the city streets during the 80s).  So 70s it is and will always be.  That is why I am thrilled with the fall winter fashion runways.

Chloe's camel look is amazing.  Such beautiful tresses on the Chloe girls.  Yes, Charlie's Angels are channeled.

Fair Isle knits were the backbone of my 70s fashion.  Always a sweater thrown over a turtleneck or mittens/scarf/hat were some form of Fair Isle Knit.  I grew up in Boston where the winters were frigid and loads of snow.  (Fair Isle is an Island off the Coast of Maine.)

Love this military coat

Shearling

Shearling is the sign of winter.  Winter has arrived. Let's get warm and head to the fire.  Layer it on.   Sienna or Camel. Same thing.  Love the way the Runways are showing shearling.  Over maxi dresses. Over leather shorts with warm, wooly tights.  Over 70s flare jeans.  I'm a girl of the 70s and can't say that shearling was "the it jacket" but in the 80s it was, for sure.  Suede, shearling or not, is a 70s thing.  If I could, I would show my favorite 70s looks right here, right now.

As Sexy as Tony from AG Jeans

I found this video on YouTube when I was searching for The Buckinghams.  The Buckinghams are a Band from the 70s.  Awesome stuff!  Seriously.  Simple but awesome.  I loved the lead singer of the band.  So sexy.  But, here is a cheezy version done by Chad M Wharton from South Dakota in honor of his ex-girlfriend "Susan".  Read the comments and watch the video.  I've already sent it to my family and friends and we are all in love with CHAD.  Looks like Tony from the AG Jeans ads but even sexier.

Enjoy and enjoy my 70s pics when they get here.  eBay.

Let's Go Back to When I Was Seventeen

I just figured out that I cannot write an interesting Blog Post unless I regress many years ago.

When I was a seventeen year old girl in Boston, (maybe younger) Janet and I would ride the elevated "El" several stops to the bowels of Boston.  Ghettoes, mostly factories and warehouses.  Our hunt was on for the best jeans possible.  Used, of course.  We found a hole in the wall junk store with stairs leading down to it's messy bins of jeans and jean jackets.  Worn out wranglers, Lee jeans, Levi's.  Jeans lined with corduroy or with plaid flannel.  Old jean jackets some with sheepskin lining.  The jeans were about $1 - 2 each.  True.  I still have my Levi jacket from that treasure hunt.  40 years ago.  Our next find was a shoe store.  Likely the predecessor of of Zappos.  In fact, it isn't "likely".  I'm quite sure it was the predecessor of Zappos because that was the name of this store.  Again, down the staircase to a mass of Nike's, Puma's, Champions, (New Balance would not come for another 10 years yet and I was around when that happened).  Piles upon piles of boxes.  $5 - $10 per pair. True.

This was the beginnings of my vintage addiction.  Oh well....better than other addictions.

STARTING TO LOVE FASHION AGAIN....MOTIVATES ME

Favorite font for writing.  Have just put closure to a sad tragic event in our community.  I live in a small town, less than 12,000, in CT.  Beautiful landscape, suburb, great schools.  But the town grew quiet when we lost a gorgeous girl in tragic auto accident.  17 years old.  Smile could light up an auditorium.  So to my peeps who may be listening....do not wait until a tragedy strikes.  Hug your kids, lovers, parents, friends.  Live like there is no tomorrow.

Writing is what I do to live like there is no tomorrow.  Yes, fashion seems trite right now.  But it is my sanity.  Knowing that we can put on a "costume"? and change how the world sees us is an empowering thought.  We can pretend that everything is just fine even though it is not.

We can change our moods quickly.  We can show our personality.

More later.  Gotta tend to my loverly daughter.  She's calling.  How sweet the sound.

Style.com's Roundup of Resort 2011's Top Trends

Style.com's Roundup of Resort 2011's Top Trends: "Hot Pants: Emilio Pucci
Peter Dundas looked at paparazzi pictures of 1970's jet-setters for his fab Emilio Pucci collection—picture Julie Christie deplaning on Capri and you get the idea. One of his finest tributes to the look of the era was this set of classic, hide-nothing hot pants, which he paired with a faded print blouse, wide leather belt, and crisp matching jacket. Practical or not, curve-hugging short shorts turned up everywhere from Chanel to Chloé to Christian Dior. Ladies, it's time to hit the StairMaster."
