Let's Go Back to When I Was Seventeen

I just figured out that I cannot write an interesting Blog Post unless I regress many years ago.

When I was a seventeen year old girl in Boston, (maybe younger) Janet and I would ride the elevated "El" several stops to the bowels of Boston.  Ghettoes, mostly factories and warehouses.  Our hunt was on for the best jeans possible.  Used, of course.  We found a hole in the wall junk store with stairs leading down to it's messy bins of jeans and jean jackets.  Worn out wranglers, Lee jeans, Levi's.  Jeans lined with corduroy or with plaid flannel.  Old jean jackets some with sheepskin lining.  The jeans were about $1 - 2 each.  True.  I still have my Levi jacket from that treasure hunt.  40 years ago.  Our next find was a shoe store.  Likely the predecessor of of Zappos.  In fact, it isn't "likely".  I'm quite sure it was the predecessor of Zappos because that was the name of this store.  Again, down the staircase to a mass of Nike's, Puma's, Champions, (New Balance would not come for another 10 years yet and I was around when that happened).  Piles upon piles of boxes.  $5 - $10 per pair. True.

This was the beginnings of my vintage addiction.  Oh well....better than other addictions.

STARTING TO LOVE FASHION AGAIN....MOTIVATES ME

Favorite font for writing.  Have just put closure to a sad tragic event in our community.  I live in a small town, less than 12,000, in CT.  Beautiful landscape, suburb, great schools.  But the town grew quiet when we lost a gorgeous girl in tragic auto accident.  17 years old.  Smile could light up an auditorium.  So to my peeps who may be listening....do not wait until a tragedy strikes.  Hug your kids, lovers, parents, friends.  Live like there is no tomorrow.

Writing is what I do to live like there is no tomorrow.  Yes, fashion seems trite right now.  But it is my sanity.  Knowing that we can put on a "costume"? and change how the world sees us is an empowering thought.  We can pretend that everything is just fine even though it is not.

We can change our moods quickly.  We can show our personality.

More later.  Gotta tend to my loverly daughter.  She's calling.  How sweet the sound.
