I am a child of the 70s and 80s and went to my share of "festivals" except we called them "concerts" then. My claim to fame was The Who in 1976 when they did their Who'sNext Tour. Yup. I was about 20 seats away from Roger in all his fringe and glory, Pete Townshend, songwriter and lead guitarist and John Entwistle and Keith Moon. My claim to fame.
The best "festivals" back then were at the Boston Common. Outside with jugglers and some really stoned dudes walking around in 1978. Seriously drug time. I saw the Beach Boys at least five times. Loved them each and every time. They got only better with age. Amazing songwriters and gifted musicians.
Possibly my favorite concert/festival was at this venue, the Boston Common, and it was Loggins & Messina doing their Full Sail album. Oh my. The most amazing experience ever. Wish I could have bottled that feeling and opened it now. I still have my Full Sail album but no place to play it.
I even remember what I wore to that concert. That is how much I loved it. I wore white painter's pants overalls with a green danskin top. I wore the overalls half done up--one side loose--because I had to pee so much I just didn't bother fastening the straps. Moccasins with beads, bandana tied up at the strap on the painter's pants meant for the hammer. Blue sky, lots of people, amazing music from Loggins & Messina. Blue Sky....brings me to probably my 2nd best concert/festival ever.....The Allman Bros. Oh man. What a night.
Actually, what a day I spend trying to get tix to that show. I stood in line for 6 hours peeps; yup, 6 hours. The crowd was huge at the Boston Garden Box Office. When I got to the box and purchased 4 tix for me and my sister and friends, it was too crowded to walk back out so I got passed over bodily by the crowd. And the concert hadn't even started!! This was the day before.
It was more than worth it. Dicky Betts, Greg Allman. Sunshine, blue sky, your my sunny day. Sweet Mellissa also. Wow. Now that's music. Not the Pop 100 we have on the radio now. What is that??
So this trip brought me to Connecticut. Connecticut?? Huge adjustment. No..culture shock is the better choice of words. Still haven't recovered after 20 years. I left my heart in Boston.
I sell vintage clothing because it gives me happiness to relive the great childhood I had growing up in Beantown. Born and raised right in Boston. 7 minute drive to downtown clubs and bars. What a life. Concerts/plays/great bands at bars/close to Cambridge.
My style now is soccer Mom (sorry). I dress in jeans and cotton shirts. But I still have my white painter pants overalls. Cannot part with them even though I have considered it.
